Keeper of the flame

I’m writing this for myself, and for those who are going through a difficult time period in their life.

I’m going to start this off with a suggestion- Wake up tomorrow on the “good side” of the bed and make an effort to accomplish something by the end of the day. It doesn’t matter how big, or how small. Get something done.

I get it. Life isn’t necessarily easy. We all deal with the challenge of battling misfortune from time to time, and some of us right now, are jumping in and out of life-altering obstacles. Sometimes, we just don’t have the energy or the time to get anything done in such a tiny window of time, and I get that.

But you are the keeper of the flame. You are in control of your life. You tell the time. You make the time. Time is a very valuable thing, and it’s a shame we don’t see very much of it. It all passes by way too quickly.

If you are struggling right now, through something seemingly difficult, that no one quite seems to understand, the best thing to do is to focus on untangling all the words with a painful twist, and eliminating the pessimistic ideas in your mind. Make an effort at finding a break-through. Find a way to put out the fire.

No one ever says it’s easy. But it’s worth seeing the bright side of things. And no, I’m not talking about a flame. It’s all about making the first step. Make an effort.

  1. Are you sure you are only 20 years old? 🙂 🙂 You reminded me of a friend who writes really good like you. You almost have the same style in writing. You are way ahead of your age. So proud of you. 🙂

  2. You are definitely not an average 20-something year old…you feel like an old soul in a younger body. You think and write things it took me all my life to believe in. In the end, no one’s opinion about your life will matter but your own — how you related to other people, places and things. Keep it positive, learn something from the downs, even if you don’t always feel like learning. We go only one way in life — and there is a lesson in every fall,
    every success.

    1. Wow Claudia you hit it on the nail. Sometimes I really do think I’m a 40 year old in a 23 year old body. It’s crazy. I just think sooo much! I think realistically, too. My dad is nearly 50 years older than me. Maybe that’s why I’m so analytical and always yearning to gain wisdom?? I don’t know. But thanks for your feedback. I am learning something every day! I believe we all take something from each and every negative downfall in our life. It’s true, what does not kill us makes us stronger. We just have to have the “proper”, or the ideal mindset to see it that way. Thanks Claudia!!

  3. Wow!!!!! First off, 🙌🏽 great post!!! I have had to learn this the hard way, moving away from negative and pessimistic thinking (& people), and really getting myself to a place where I can fully embrace who I am and what life means for me. I love the statement, ‘you tell time,’ because I used to HATE looking at the clock. It felt like time was moving so fast and I had no control of my life. I think once everything from the way I thought about life, to the way I handled situation, to how I valued myself, all those things kind of started to fall right into place at the same time and I started to really live, and Enjoy life, you know! I think I was reading a book by OSHO, either courage or creativity, and he talked about how we often run from time, dreading looking at clocks literally allowing something we have no control of to control us! And it really changed my perspective of time and allowed all those other changes to really take effect and make an even bigger impact on my life!

    1. I appreciate your enthusiasm so much! Thanks! I used to avoid looking at the clock, too. Especially when I was younger. Now that I am older, I value my time so much more. In fact, I’m constantly looking at the clock to keep up. I feel like I’m always running late because of how fast time goes!!! It’s so scary. The book you mentioned, by OSHO sounds very encouraging and enlightening on the subject matter of time. I will check that out. It’s interesting you say how we have no control of time, and that it controls us. So true! The fact is, we are each in charge of our own time, and schedule. We hold the watch. And it ain’t stoppin’!!! No matter what our situation or circumstance is, we tell the time. I strongly believe that. Ashley thank you for sharing your insight on this. I appreciate your opinion so much!! Thank you for reading.

      1. So So true! Yes, check out one of those books (one title is creative the other is courage-can’t remember which one he discussed time in but they’re both really great reads!). I think this past year is my first time really identifying my ‘issue’ with time, I don’t think we realize how we’re effected by time until we’re looking at our lives trying to grasp what’s really going on around us!! I love your insight and thinking!!! Thanks for such a great post ☺️

  4. I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m also in the point of my life where nothing seems to be easy but I’m also sure everything will be worth it in the end. This a truly wonderful piece. Thanks a lot. 🙂
