As a beginner at blogging, I want nothing more than a supportive community and good quality feedback. I appreciate all the comments, and the stories people write in response to the content I post. I really enjoy connecting to all of you, and I truly try my best to stay in touch with everyone. I just want to share some of the thoughts and questions that repeat over and over in my mind while I am actively blogging.
“Notification Alert”
»The “Follow” Button is merely just a way you show someone you like their content, and you want to read more. Notification alert: New Follower
What I Think: Smiling at another new follower. Let me check out their blog. *Comments on something relatable*
»The “Favorite” button is literally conveying to a blogger you like the message, or even the title of their blog. Notification alert: New Like
What I Think: I wonder what this blogger liked about my post? They didn’t leave a comment. Hmm, let me check out their blog. *Likes something relatable*
»The “Comment” button is a strong indicator that the content is relatable, and therefore further discussion is anticipated. Notification alert: New Comment
What I Think: Oooh! A comment. Let’s read. *reading…reading* Stunned. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. *views blog* *comments on something relatable* Wow, and so on…and so on.
»For those who show some love, but don’t follow. Notification alert: Appreciation overload
What I Think: This blogger just liked all of my posts. Why? I didn’t get a comment. Not one. Did they really read every single blog? Hmm…Why didn’t they follow me?
»Those who I show love to, but never get anything in return. Notification alert: You don’t have any.
What I Think: I wonder if they at least viewed my blog. Did they really not like anything? We write about similar stuff. Hmm…
I have the same thoughts as you. I try not to jump in joy whenever someone likes one of my posts. I might end up physically hurting myself if I get too excited. I’m clumsy enough to do it. Hahaha. If they leave a comment, I go from jumping to screaming, because I can’t believe someone like what I wrote while at the same time I feel extremely grateful. Even if someone simply views my post, I’m happy. 🙂

Haha, I have to say that my brain goes through the exact same thought process when each of these happen! So glad I stumbled on your blog, can’t wait to check out more of your work. x

Hey J!! Thanks for reading. We have to remember not all bloggers think the same way so can’t expect too much right?! Lol. Thanks for finding me:) I am going to check out your blog right now!

Hi Blue,
I read your post. Many bloggers feel these insecurities. When people just click the like button, we have no way of knowing if they actually read or post. I once had a reader like my post. Then he wrote a critical comment about it and promptly unfollowed me. Why did he like the post if he was just going to criticize it? Clearly he didn’t read it.
I met you on Stephanie’s blog. I agreed with your comments so I came over. I am also looking for a supportive community that I can exchange dialogue with.
You indicated you are a new blogger. Maybe you can check out my blog. I help new bloggers at my site mostlyblogging.com. Stephanie is one of my long-time readers. I also host six blog parties a month where you can meet readers for your new blog.

Hi Janice,
It’s true, we have no way of really know just how much of our writing is absorbed through the reader. I’m not sure why the reader you mentioned thought it was necessary to ‘like’ your post, if he didn’t like it. It doesn’t make sense. Anyways, there’s always one in the bunch isn’t there?!
I appreciate you commenting and I appreciate your kind words. I will check out your blog 🙂 Thanks again and take care.

Ahh notifications…they get to the best of us. I tell myself I just write because I want to express myself and maybe be able to help someone out there. But secretly if I don’t get likes or follows I feel like I’m doing this for nothing. Nobody is going to see my stuff. It’s not going to make a difference you know?

That’s exactly how I feel sometimes! I put a lot of effort into my writing and it’s the best feeling when readers appreciate my work. And really acknowledge my work. I try to do the same thing for other writers, but i’ve noticed not all bloggers want to chat. Hence..the reason I posted this blog. Haha. I know what you mean though. We just have to socialize with each other and encourage one another. Thanks for reading 🙂

This post is gold. Illustrates what I really feel as a newbie writer. Influencing other people with your own goddamn words and shenanigans, indeed, is the greatest feeling ever! ❤

Haha I loved this, I have had all of the same thoughts at one point! You can LOVE someones page? I don’t know how to do this yet I guess…I hate when someone likes all of my stuff, I know that sounds weird. But it just seems spammy, I’d rather have a genuine like than a free one.

Right! It’s happened to me a few times. I get what seems like never ending notifications of likes. It really makes me wonder if they’re doing it for attention or if they just like the title. How do they read so fast?! Lol.

It’s happen to me too! I think what I hate about it the most is I will see that I have notifications and get all excited and then open it up and be like, oh, boo. They don’t like the title and they don’t read that fast! ha! I’m not sure if it’s a feeble attempt to get your attention so you will go check out there stuff or maybe if others see there name enough they will. It makes no sense to me!

I like to try to tell myself I write because I just enjoy writing but at the same time when you’re putting your stuff out there in the public domain you want to get likes and comments so that it makes it feel worthwhile.

Right! Thats exactly what I used to say to myself when I first starting writing publicly. But then the comments starting coming… and the likes. And it got me wondering, hmmm maybe I’m onto something here. Lol.

Same thoughts I have too when I’m done blogging but I stopped expecting too much from people.

Yeah it sucks though. Some of us on here put a lot of energy and time into blogging and it’s a little discouraging when others can’t show the same love we show them. Lol. Sigh. That’s life though 🤷🏼♀️

Diddo. I remember when I was first starting out and had my phone notify me for everything: like, comment, follow. I would get so excited every time! And then they started coming infrequently, but I’d still log on to see if there was any activity; maybe my notifications weren’t working (they were). I’ve turned them off now, but I still smile every time I see the notification icon. 🙂

Right?! Lol. I love waking up to a bunch of notifications. It keeps me motivated me to stay active on here! Haha. But you’re right, when the notifications aren’t as frequent, I have to put in some work. But it’s never easy.
